Service Request Instructions
PLEASE READ ENTIRELY BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR REQUEST
The OCRCFL requires a minimum of three (3) business days notice if you wish to request our assistance on-site. This includes any request for field siezure, field previewing or field imaging.
The OCRCFL does not accept faxed requests of any kind. Thank you for your cooperation.

Participating Agency Requests
- If you are from a Participating Agency, there is no need to call ahead for pre-approval, you may come directly to the OCRCFL to request forensic assistance. You will need to bring the following items with you:
- Request for Service Form (can be completed at the OCRCFL)
- Legal Authority – No originals please
- The digital media you want to have examined
- PARTICPATING AGENCY CELL PHONE EXAMINATION ACCEPTANCE POLICY
- All Participating Agencies should process their cell phone requests through the Self Service Kiosk before making a request to the OCRCFL for a laboratory examination of a cell phone.
- Exceptions to the use of the Self Service Cell Phone Kiosk before submitting the cell phone(s) for forensic examination can be granted by the Laboratory Director, or his designee.
- If you need assistance using the Self Service Kiosk, please ask for the OCRCFL Duty Examiner. The Duty Examiner will assist you with the Self Service Kisok as necessary.
Non-Participating Agency Requests
- If you are from a Non-Participating Agency, prior to submitting evidence for examination, you must complete and provide the following three artifacts:
- Our Request for Service PDF.
- Copy of legal authority (consent, search warrant, etc) – No originals please.
- A letter from your Chief, Sheriff or Agency head, on department letterhead, requesting OCRCFL assistance. Please refer to our Non-Participating Agency Assistance Letter template. All bold text must be included. Italicized language should be edited to reflect the current specific case.
- Acceptance of Request for Service submissions from Non-Participating Agencies will be evaluated on a case by case basis by the OCRCFL Laboratory Director, or his designee.
- Whether your request is approved or disapproved, you will receive either a telephone call or an email from us letting you know the status of your request.
- If your request is approved, PLEASE do not submit evidence or legal authority until you receive a reply.

Requested Services
Your case will be assigned as either a CAIR Examination or a Directed Forensic Examination. This decision will be made by the OCRCFL Laboratory Director, or his designee.
Either way, you should specifically list what the examiner should extract from the digital media during the course of the examination. Please provide as much case information as known to you – the more detail the better. Without detailed information on the case and what is needed, the forensic examiner will be unable to conduct the exam.
The following requests will not be accepted:
- "Extract all data possible"
- "Examine for child porn"
- "Extract suspicious information"
- "Dump all contents of drive"
Examples of appropriate requests:
- "Examine for evidence of possession and distribution of child pornography on Limewire. Username of JoJoNasty. Child pornography pictures and videos were downloaded on May 1, 2010"
- "Extract address book, SMS, call logs, pictures and videos depicting a young female"
- "Determine usage of computer on November 12, 2010 on or about 0200 hours. Victim found shot to death. Believe to have been contacting prostitutes using Craigslist and Backpage"
- "Extract data in reference to check fraud investigation. Suspect used account numbers of 12345 and 6789 written to Sarah Rouse and Joe Davis. Suspect named Ima Thief. Determine number of checks written"
- "Extract Internet history for the account John Doe from March 5th to March 31st, 2010"
